Introduction

The Graduate School of Human Sexuality at Shu-Te University was established in May, 2000 and the doctoral program was sat up later in 2006. The program is the only accredited program of its kind in Asia. Our mission is the advancement of professional practice for educators, consultants, counselors and therapists.

Objective

The education objective is:

  1. Establishing the professional status and research base for sexology in Taiwan.
  2. Teaching and researching in sexuality through the viewpoint of HUMAN.
  3. Training students for professionals and teachers at sexuality.
  4. Exchanging and collaborating with worldwide communities of school researchers, university professors to promote its academic standard and fame internationally.

Therefore, for this objective the curriculum is subdivided to 3 fields: sexual education, sexual counseling and sexual society to offer professional knowledge.

Prospects for graduates

The doctoral degree program has provided graduates professional development and orientation.

  • The doctoral degree program offers the opportunity for students with master degree to participate further research projects.

The program promotes academic sexology and professional expertise, and offers great deal of research and supervises for social organization, hospital, and prevention center. There are 152 universities that offer the courses of general education or liberal arts in Taiwan provide the courses or programs about human relationship and family and marriage. Out of 152 universities, there are related departments of 129 research institutes such as gender research, anthropology, educational counseling, psychology, health education, nursing, etc that need opportunities of research and demand a large number of teachers. There are 356 non-governmental organizations that devote themselves to researches and offer graduates advanced guidance nationwide.

  • Graduates have more opportunities for careers

Due to the Gender Equity Education and Grade 1-9 Curriculum developed by the Government, school graduates are employed in a variety of settings, including education, social work, public welfare, foundation, the media, medicine and nursing, research, and administrative positions.

As the Sexology Program has excellent professional knowledge and skills, many opportunities arise for greater links outside of Taiwan for career and further research opportunities. Since there are 15 universities with sexology programs throughout Asia, such as, Southern College and New Era College of Malaysia, Medical University, Normal University and University of Humanities and Social Sciences of Vietnam, 32 sexuality research institutes in China, other than, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, and India, sexuality researchers and professors are in high demand.

Future prospects for the department

  1. To foster the trend of domestic sexuality research.
  2. To carry on the exchange and collaboration with world association of sexologists and professional scholars.
  3. To expand the student employment in the workplace.
